Flight Through the Orion Nebula

Here is a stunning flight based on Hubble and Spitzer space telescope data through the closest area of star formation to Earth, just 1,344 light years (+/- 20 ly) away.

Known to astronomers as M42, it is one of the brightest nebulae and visible to the unaided eye, high in the south in the evenings this time of year, midway down Orion’s sword.
